Kindergarten

Classical Christian Education in a nurturing environment.

As the parent of a rising kindergartner, you recognize that each child learns at their own pace, and how important it is to find a kindergarten program that aligns instructional practices with student development. Whether your child has already been introduced to school through a preschool program or if kindergarten is their first introduction to a classroom, it’s important that their teacher meets them where they are.

Our kindergarten program is designed to offer a nurturing, safe environment where creative play and classical Christian education meet. Below, you’ll find a brief overview of what we offer, including:

Our Kindergarten Program

The Covenant Preparatory School’s kindergarten program is five days a week:

  • Monday, Wednesday, Thursday, Friday – 7:45 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.
  • Tuesday – 9:00 a.m. to 3:00 p.m.

To attend Kindergarten at The Covenant Preparatory School, students must be 5 years old by September 1 of the current academic year.

Early Morning & Extended Care

Our Early Morning and Extended Care programs provide students with opportunities for extra play and supervised activities.

We offer Early Morning Care from 6:45 a.m. until school begins at no additional cost for families.

We offer Extended Care from 3:00 – 6:30 p.m. daily or as-needed for an additional charge.

A Day in the Life of a Covenant Kindergartner

What does a day in the life of a kindergartner at Covenant look like? Below are some sample subjects that will give you an idea of how your little learner will spend their days.

Bible

Daily instruction, verse memorization, and weekly chapel guide students spiritually.

Reading & Writing

Phonics instruction provides a solid foundation for reading and literacy skills, and handwriting is practiced and perfected daily.

History

The past comes alive through creative fun and compelling stories.

Math

Using manipulatives helps with retention and comprehension.

Science

We explore the fundamentals of science to spark early interest.

Physical Education & Recess

Movement is critical for little learners as they enjoy running, swinging, climbing, and coordinated games.

Library

Establishing an early love of reading is important for academic success. Kindergartners love picking out books and listening to beloved stories.

Art & Music

Painting, singing, drawing, and dancing foster creativity and imagination.

Playful learning in a structured, nurturing environment.

Kindergarten is an exciting time as little learners are introduced to everything from academic fundamentals to navigating social relationships. At The Covenant Preparatory School, we give kindergartners instruction time alongside playtime, ensuring they’re learning by doing, all while having fun! Group activities allow for social interaction and skill building, such as taking turns, sharing, sitting still, and teamwork.

Our kindergartners thrive through:

Kindergarten teacher and student

Care and support.

Our dedicated teachers meet with parents in the fall to review the curriculum, and help ensure both comprehension and mastery for each student through instructional practices.

An active learning approach.

We approach learning by balancing instruction time with physical, social, and creative fun, helping ensure an understanding of core subjects as they explore phonics, reading, writing, math, Bible, and history.

Kindergarten Science

Stimulating activities.

From swinging on the playground to counting with blocks at a classroom learning center, our kindergartners love hands-on projects and getting their wiggles out.

Modeling kindness.

Our students feel known and loved as teachers model Christian values through classroom prayer and teaching Fruit of the Spirit.

Buddy Meet and Greet

Our kindergarten classes are located in the same area as our pre-kindergarten classes, and students enjoy recess on the playground twice a day and physical education in the gym everyday.

After feeling a bit unsettled as to where to send my daughter to kindergarten, I felt at ease after my first visit to Covenant.  I knew that Covenant was the right choice for our family after learning more about the academic instruction, philosophy and the mission of the school.  I feel confident that my daughter will not only be prepped with a strong educational foundation, but she will be equipped to truly make a difference in the world, wherever she chooses to go after Covenant.

Enriched Learning

Our kindergarten program uses interactive instruction to help students master content in core subject areas, giving them a solid foundation for starting elementary school. Utilizing Abeka, Envision, and Bob Jones’ curriculums, we focus on problem-solving and comprehension through independent work and small group sessions.

At the kindergarten level, core subject areas include:

  • Bible
  • Reading/Phonics
  • Writing
  • History
  • Math

Technology In the Classroom

We make sure technology use is always age- and developmentally-appropriate. Smart Boards enrich instruction and keep students engaged. Screen time for kindergarteners is limited in order to maximize creative play and other opportunities for developing social and communication skills.

A Safe Environment

All parents should feel peace of mind when dropping their little ones off at school. At Covenant, we have an armed security guard on campus during school hours. All visitors are required to check in at our main entrance; we screen all visitors, volunteers, and contractors on campus. Background checks are performed on all employees. Exterior doors and gates are locked from the time school begins until dismissal.

TEACHING EXPERIENCE: 30 YEARS

“My favorite thing about teaching kindergarten is watching the kids mature and learn to read.  It is amazing to me that most come in not reading and are reading by October. They get so excited! … I truly believe I was born to teach.  I started teaching my stuffed animals when I was 3. I started teaching on a JOY bus when I was in the 6th grade.  The bus would pick up the kids and I would teach them all the way to church and back home.  In high school, I was teaching at workshops to teach others how to teach on the JOY buses. I had so many wonderful mentors who saw something in me and then trained me and pushed me to be the best I could be. Teaching has been my  life.  I loved it when I was 3 and still love it after 30 years of teaching.”
