Catching-up with Jared Blunt, 2016 Graduate of Covenant

by Ashley Greene on March 7, 2025

Established in 1993, The Covenant Preparatory School has been developing generations of future leaders for over thirty years.  Our commitment to Christ-centered academics in a nurturing environment has created an unshakable foundation for hundreds of students and has helped them launch meaningful and purpose-driven lives.  In some cases those students join Covenant later in their educational journey–such as high school.  In others, we get the opportunity to nurture them all the way from pre-K up through graduation.  Such was the case with Jared Blunt.

Jared started in pre-K when Covenant was known as Northeast Christian Academy, and went on to graduate in 2016 as the first graduating class under the Covenant name.  We caught up with him recently to learn more about what led him here, his Covenant faves, and his life now.

Why private school?

Having a mom that was an educator who was growing increasingly disenchanted with the education that she was experiencing in public school, and a father who shared similar feelings of disappointment with his own public education, Jared’s parents formed a united front to ensure that he and his brother Jeremy received the best education they could provide.  Jared’s mom actually made the jump first–accepting an offer to teach at the school, and then Jared and his brother came along shortly thereafter.

Jared’s parents saw the lifelong benefits of their kids not only learning information but learning in the classical style that would teach them how to critically think and form their own opinions.

Why Covenant?

Covenant offers a classical Christian, college preparatory education bolstered by competitive athletics, fine arts, engaging co-curricular activities, and opportunities for student leadership. Houston-area families appreciate our well-rounded student experience without overcrowded classrooms or a curriculum that’s limited by standardized test requirements.  100% of our graduates are accepted to four-year colleges and universities.  Twelve students on average are in each class where each child is seen, heard and valued.  Seventy percent of middle and high school students are involved in athletics, and our graduates each clock over 100 service hours by the time they graduate.

Looking back.

Jared favorably looks back at his education at Covenant and says that the most memorable part of his education was simply the opportunity to attend Covenant.  “The ability to study at Covenant was always the best part, but I also enjoyed the opportunities that it afforded me as well,” says Jared.  “I played basketball, football, baseball, golf and shot put.”  He fondly recalls being the state runner up and champion one year.  Leadership opportunities at Covenant are prolific.  Jared recounts his experience as student body president and his involvement in theater arts, as well as his roles as a mentor (Buddy) to a lower school student, captain of the House he belonged to, and the honor of being salutatorian upon graduation.  “Opportunities to build community, to lead, to connect–they are plentiful at Covenant,” Jared states.  “This involvement and these experiences have helped shape me into the person that I am today.”

At Covenant, our distinctives set us apart.  ClassicalChristianCommunity and Caring.  With regard to Community, Covenant’s House system, Buddy programs, athletics, clubs and events all work together to foster friendship and mentorship for generations to come.

“My best friends to this day, I met while attending Covenant,” recalls Jared.  “The friendships you make while attending Covenant really matter.  This tight-knit community is rare, and I can truly say that these relationships are still impacting me positively years and years post graduation.”

Looking ahead.

Now, nearly ten years later, Jared is loving life.  As a Licensed Insurance Agent with Whittington Insurance Agency, he is reminded every day how important it is to put others first.  “I am constantly helping people who are having the worst day of their life–either they have totaled a car or their home is significantly damaged and they are looking for someone to give them guidance and help,” says Jared.  “Truly, my education at Covenant taught me how to critically think, evaluate situations, empathize with people, and solve problems by formulating the best path forward for them.”

We value intellectual development as essential to Christian witness and influence.  We value thinking and communicating as the highest possible academic outcome, and we value instruction that is designed for the demonstration of thinking.

Happily married and building a career in an industry that he loves, Jared believes there is a direct correlation between his Covenant education and his current success.  Finding true joy on a firm foundation of faith is an outcome that is immeasurable.  We are grateful to Jared for using his Covenant education as a launch pad for servant leadership and for changing lives.  He is distinctly Covenant.
